About the Role
We are looking to expand our Intellectual Property (IP) practice and are seeking an experienced IP Counsel with 10+ years of Post-Qualification Experience (PQE). This role is ideal for a seasoned IP professional who combines exceptional legal expertise with strong commercial acumen and the confidence to independently manage complex trademark matters while advising domestic and international clients.
The ideal candidate will have excellent executive presence, outstanding communication skills, and the ability to lead client engagements, negotiate effectively, and drive matters through to successful completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage trademark co-existence agreements and settlement negotiations.
- Conduct comprehensive knockout searches, clearance searches, and provide detailed risk assessments.
- Handle end-to-end trademark prosecution, including filing strategies, examination responses, oppositions, cancellations, renewals, and portfolio management.
- Develop and execute trademark enforcement strategies, including cease-and-desist actions, infringement analysis, dispute resolution, and litigation support.
- Advise clients on cross-border IP matters, global trademark filing strategies, and international portfolio management.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships by providing commercially practical and strategic legal advice.
- Lead client meetings, manage stakeholder expectations, and independently oversee matters from initiation to completion.
- Coordinate with international law firms, foreign associates, and regulatory authorities on multi-jurisdictional IP matters.
- Mentor junior lawyers and contribute to the continued growth of the firm's IP practice.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- LL.B. from a recognized university (LL.M. in Intellectual Property or related field will be an advantage).
Experience
- 10+ years of Post-Qualification Experience (PQE) in Intellectual Property law with a strong focus on trademarks.
- Demonstrated expertise in trademark prosecution, enforcement, clearance, and portfolio management.
- Strong experience in handling co-existence agreements, settlement negotiations, and cross-border IP advisory.
- Experience working with domestic and international clients across multiple industries.
